PLC Info and RIM join NBITC Board

Ian Cavanagh and Scott MacIntosh, Co-chairs of the NBIT Council, are pleased to announce that Marc Dube of PLC Info, Mike LeBlanc of RIM have joined the Board.

Province misses R&D opportunity

I was excited when I heard this week that 19 leading researchers in their respective fields from around the world had been attracted to Canada to be the first group of Canada Excellence Research Chairs. Industry Minister Tony Clement was beside himself with glee talking about how other countries are just talking about the importance of research while Canada is committing significant new funding. In all, 13 universities across Canada received at least one of these top scientists to their campuses, most with other researchers and graduate students in tow.

Over the past few months, Innovatia Inc. has been quietly hiring dozens of technology employees to carry out work on contracts the company landed with two high-profile global clients.

"We compete on a global basis and these clients could have had the work done in Argentina or Turkey," Dave Grebenc, the Saint John-based company's chief operating officer said.

$15,000 grant to help with foray into new market

You may have never heard of Vimsoft Inc., but Oprah Winfrey's HARPO Productions has, as has the U.S. military, PBS, the Major League Baseball Network, and other broadcast giants.

The Dieppe company, which has been around since 1994, offers information management software geared toward the broadcasting industry that has been snapped up by big name broadcasters across North America.

Now the company is looking to expand and has created a new version of the software for use in warehousing operations.

Project: Province could have complete high speed capabilities by month's end

The rollout of broadband Internet access to all areas of the province has been so successful that it's now on track to be done ahead of schedule.

Victor Boudreau, minister of Business New Brunswick, said the province will likely enjoy 100 per cent high speed access by the end of the month, ahead of the projected deadline of July.

"We are the only jurisdiction in North America to be able to make that claim," he said.
